Weather Wipes Out Tuesday and Wednesday Programs; 100,
110, & 120 MPH Club Qualifying Added To Saturday's Event
Wednesday, October 24, 2007
What is the old saying..."Into every day a little rain must fall"???
Considering the number of weeks that Dragway 42 has racing scheduled each year, Mother Nature has been pretty cooperative
in 2007 but this week's final Tuesday and Wednesday events have fallen victim to rain and cold conditions that are not allowing
any significant drying of the facility.
With a little help from the sun over the next couple of days it is hoped that the PowderGuys.com Friday Night Program will be able to
be run as scheduled
When the October schedule was announced Tuesdays October 16 and 23 were set aside as the planned date and rain date for the Akron
Horsepower 100 MPH Club's special, once per month qualify for the 110 and 120 MPH Clubs for street legal vehicles. Since both dates
have been lost to rain it has been decided that it is appropriate to reschedule a final opportunity for competitors to qualify for
membership in the 2007 clubs.
Dragway 42 will offer qualifying for the 100 MPH Club plus special qualifying for the 110 and 120 MPH Clubs for street legal vehicles
at this Saturday's Test & Tune and Gambler Race event. The Saturday, October 27 afternoon event will carry the same costs as a Tuesday Program
with participants paying just $10 to compete in the 1/4 mile Test & Tune and just $1 per qualifying attempt for the clubs.
2007 Member t-shirts for the 100 MPH Club will also be offered for sale at Saturday's event.
"We hope the addition of this final chance to join these clubs or to improve on racer's current MPH rankings will take some of the
sting out of losing the past two Tuesday night events to the weather", stated Dragway 42's Toby Ehrmantraut. "It may even add a chance
for some really fast street car owners to come out and qualify for the club who were not able to travel to the track on Tuesday nights."
Saturday's 1/4 mile Test & Tune participants will also have the option to participate in an 1/8th mile bracket race. A separate $20
"Gambler Race" entry fee will fund an 80% payback purse that will be split between the winner and runner-up of the Saturday afternoon event.
Gates will open Saturday at 11:30 AM and the Gambler Race eliminations will begin at 3 PM. The three 100, 110, and 120 MPH Club qualifying
sessions will be spaced one hour apart during the Saturday afternoon event.
Final Week Of 2007 Tues, Wed, and Fri Events On Tap
Monday, October 22, 2007
Looking back, it was Friday, March 30, 2007 and a beautiful early spring day greeted hundreds of racers as Dragway 42
kicked off 31 straight weeks of the "weeknight racing" portion of the 50th Anniversary Season at Dragway 42.
As the change from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time sits on the horizon the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday
portion of Dragway 42's five day per week race program (the most extensive schedule events open to the general public
of any motorsports facility in this part of the country) winds to a close this week.
The weekend program at Dragway 42 will continue until the snow flys but this week will be final chance for racers and test & tuners
to participate in the Tuesday Akron Horsepower 1/4 mile Street Race, Grudge Race, and Test & Tune program with qualifying
for the 100, 110, and 120 MPH Clubs for street legal cars; the Wedneday Summit Racing Equipment Retail Store Cash and Trophy
night with three 1/4 mile trophy classes and one 1/8th mile money class plus the continuing distribution of a season total
of $3,000 worth of Summit Racing Equipment gift cards courtesy of the Summit Racing Equipment retail store in Tallmadge;
and the Friday PowderGuys.com 1/4 mile Street Race, Grudge Race, and Test & Tune night.
Gates open for all 3 of the "final" weeknight programs at 5:30 PM. Cars are put on the track beginning at 6 PM. Wednesday's
elimination rounds begin at 9 PM, with racing and test & tuning continuing until the final pair of class eliminator racers
head down the track while the Tuesday and Friday programs continue until at least 10 PM.
We want to thank all of the participants who have supported our week programs again this season as well as the weeknight program
sponsors who made the "Akron Horsepower" Tuesday, "Summit Racing Equipment Retail Store" Wednesday, and "PowderGuys.com" Friday
programs possible.
