Several hundred racers, family members, sponsors, and fans gathered Saturday night as Dragway 42 honored the
top racers from the track's 50th Anniversary and unveiled the approximately 140 race event, 2008 season plans.
The honorees shared heartfelt stories from their championship seasons and one junior dragster competitor delighted
the crowd by sharing his dad's fatherly advice about how a certain body part would feel when he finally goes
"really, really fast".
In addition to the racers who received their championship prizes, awards, and checks, all of those in attendance
had a chance to share in a huge door prize pool of over 200 items valued at more than $9,000. The "grand prize"
door prize of the winner's choice of any pair of Goodyear racing slicks courtesy of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber
Company went to Mod racer Jeff Pishner while the special events gold card went to "Anything Goes" racer Steve
Dembowski.
The evening finished with the release of the 2008 event schedule at Dragway 42 as well as the announcements of
several new events and higher purses in upper classes of competition.
Below are some of the 2008 season highlights.
Sunday Summit SuperSeries Events
The $250,000 Summit SuperSeries program returns to Dragway 42 in 2008 with 14 point races being held on Sundays,
April 20 and 27; May 11 and 18; June 1, 8, 22, and 29; July 13 and 27; August 10 and 24; and September 7 and 14.
Racers are NOT required to a member of track points nor the IHRA to compete at any or all of these events and will
receive the the full purse however those who wish to competed for the season long track championships as well as
the Summit SuperSeries awards and contingencies will be required to be both a member of the Dragway 42 points
program and a member of the IHRA.
Top Class
The Top Class e.t. guidelines and rules remain the same for 2008 (0-7.99 1/8th mile; delay boxes allowed; no bikes)
while the PURSE has been INCREASED in the class for all 14 points events. The season-long track points champion
in Top will be crowned the Summit SuperSeries "Box" champion from Dragway 42.
When the Top Class car count is 64 or more,
the class will pay $2,000 to win; $700 to runner-up; $200 to semi-finalist;
and $25 round money beginning with a driver's 2nd round win of the day. If the Top Class car count is below 64 entries,
Dragway 42 still guarantees a minimum purse of $1,000 to win; $350 to runner-up; and $100 to the semi-finalists with
the $25 round money.
The car and driver entry fee for the 2008 Top Class is $50.00
Mod Class
The Mod Class sees a small adjustment in e.t. guidelines for 2008 (expanding by 1/2 second to 0-9.49 1/8th mile),
while the remaining class rules stay unchanged (no delay boxes allowed; no bikes) and a PURSE INCREASE for the 14
points events. The season-long track points champion in Mod will be crowned the Summit SuperSeries "No Box"
champion from Dragway 42.
When the Mod Class car count is 64 or more,
the class will pay $1,500 to win; $500 to runner-up; $150 to
semi-finalist; and $15 round money beginning with a driver's 2nd round win of the day. If the Mod Class car
count is below 64 entries, Dragway 42 still guarantees a minimum purse of $750 to win; $250 to runner-up; and $75
to the semi-finalists with the $15 round money.
The car and driver entry fee for the 2008 Mod Class is $40.00
Street Class
The Akron Horsepower Street Class sees a tightening in e.t. guidelines for 2008 (changing to 12.00-17.99 1/4 mile),
while the remaining class rules stay unchanged (footbrake only; no bikes) and a guaranteed PURSE INCREASE for the 14
points events.
The class will pay
$250 to win and $50 to runner-up with $10 round money beginning with a driver's 2nd round win
of the day.
The car and driver entry fee for the 2008 Street Class is $20.00
Street class racer's wishing to compete in the season-long points championship will be working towards year-end
bonuses of $500 cash, a 2009 Gold Card, champion jacket, plaque, and Kruger's Photo package for the track champion;
$200 cash and a plaque for the track runner-up; and $100 cash and a plaque for the 3rd place racer. Point racers
are also eligible for the Summit SuperSeries contingency awards for an event win or runner-up.
Pro Bike Class
The Vanson Leathers Pro Bike Class returns in 2008 the same guidelines and purse as 2007. The Pro Bike class
remains an all-run, no-box class for dial-ins of 0-9.50 on the 1/8th mile.
At the 14 points events, bike racers will competed for 50% of the total bike and rider entry fees to the class winner
and 25% of the total bike and rider entry fees to the class runner-up. The bike and rider entry fee is $35.00
Pro Bike racer's wishing to compete in the season-long points championship in the class will be working towards
year end bonuses of $500 Vanson Leathers certificate, 2009 Gold Card, champion jacket, plaque, and Kruger's Photos
package for the track champion; $300 Vanson Leathers certificate and plaque for the track runner-up; $200 Vanson
Leathers certificate and plaque for the 3rd place finisher; and $100 Vanson Leathers certificate and plaque to the
4th place finisher. Point racers are also eligible for the Summit SuperSeries contingency awards for an event win
or runner-up.
Junior Dragster - Junior Fuel Class
The Pat Catan's Craft Centers Junior Fuel Class returns in 2008 the same guidelines and purse as 2007.
The Junior Fuel class is open to 13-17 year olds, with dial-ins of 7.90 and slower racing for $100 cash to win and
$35 cash to runner-up with $5 cash round money beginning with the racer's 2nd round win of the day. The car and
driver entry fee is $20
Junior Fuel racer's wishing to compete in the season-long points championship in the class will be working towards
year end bonuses of $500 Savings Bond, 2009 Gold Card, champion jacket, plaque, and Kruger's Photos package for the
track champion; $250 Savings Bond and plaque for the track runner-up; and $100 Savings Bond and plaque for the 3rd
place finisher. Point racers are also eligible for the Summit SuperSeries contingency awards for an event win or
runner-up.
Junior Dragster - Junior Super Stock Class
The World Cup Coffee Junior Super Stock Class returns in 2008 with a PURSE INCREASE, but otherwise unchanged
guidelines from 2007.
The Junior Super Stock class is open to 10-12 year olds, with dial-ins of 8.90 and slower racing for
$100
cash to win and $35 cash to runner-up with $5 cash round money beginning with the racer's 2nd round win of the
day. The car and driver entry fee remains unchanged from 2007 at $20
Junior Super Stock racer's wishing to compete in the season-long points championship in the class will be working
towards year end bonuses of $350 Savings Bond, 2009 Gold Card, champion jacket, plaque, and Kruger's Photos package
for the track champion; $200 Savings Bond and plaque for the track runner-up; and $100 Savings Bond and plaque for
the 3rd place finisher. Point racers are also eligible for the Summit SuperSeries contingency awards for an event
win or runner-up.
Junior Dragster - Junior Stock Class
The World Cup Coffee Junior Stock Class in 2008 the same guidelines and awards as 2007.. The Junior Stock class is
open to 8-9 year olds, with dial-ins of 12.90 and slower racing for trophies to all round winners. The car and
driver entry fee remains unchanged at $20
Junior Super Stock racer's wishing to compete in the season-long points championship in the class will be working
towards year end bonuses of a 5 foot tall trophy, 2009 Gold Card, champion jacket, and Kruger's Photos package for
the track champion; 2 foot trophy for the track runner-up; and 1 foot tall trophy for the 3rd place finisher.
There is no charge to sign up for the track points program in Junior Stock.

Dragway 42 "ALL OUT"
From April through October, the first Friday night event of the month
* will feature Dragway 42 "ALL OUT"
presented by Akron Horsepower.
Run in addition to the scheduled test and tune, street race, and grudge race night program, for no additional entry
fee Dragway 42 "ALL OUT" will feature the 8 closest matched cars of the evening racing "ALL OUT", heads-up, no
breakout, on a pro tree for a minimum purse of $200.
Since it's the closest 8 cars, it may be eight 9 second cars or it may be eight 15 second cars, but they will be
no sandbagging, judges decisions final, "ALL OUT" events.
*The July event will be run Friday, July 11
Dragway 42 "100 MPH Club"
The highly successful, Dragway 42 "100 MPH Club" presented by Akron Horsepower will return for 2008 and is better
than ever.
From April 1 through October 29, each Tuesday Night street race, grudge race, and test & tune program will feature
3 qualifying sessions for the Dragway 42 100 MPH Club for street legal cars.
For just $1 per qualifying attempt, racers try to earn a 100 MPH Club decal and a spot on the Dragway42.com
list of members, listed by MPH.
New this year is the awarding each Tuesday night of a custom trophy for the fastest MPH car from the 3 qualifying
sessions that evening.
Dragway 42 Friday Night Gambler Races
For 2008 Dragway 42 has added a 100% payback, Gambler Race program to the regularly scheduled Friday night street
race, grudge race, and test & tune events.
For those who wish to participate, an additional $20 entry will be collected in the staging lanes that will fund
the 100% payback purse.
It's a great way to take home some $$$ while keeping your driving skills sharp.
