Summit SuperSeries Moves Towards Final 4 Events
Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Dragway 42's season-long points program, the 2010 Summit SuperSeries has moved into its second half and the standings shuffle and tighten from event to event.

In TPS Tire and Service Center "Top", Gus Dowdell and Greg Fox has traded off a one round lead from event to event with Dowdell now back on "Top".

With 10 different drivers receiving cash and prizes based on their finishing positions, the battles are hard fought up and down the standings. In "Top", sixteen drivers fall within 3 rounds of eliminations of each other with 4 more events remaining in the schedule of 10 Summit SuperSeries events.

In Wind-It-Tight Engine "Mod" Class, Steve Obertanec holds onto the points lead which he took with his class win 2 events ago.

On the strength of his class win this past Sunday, Tom Mulhan has moved into second place in the Mod class standings.

Wind-It-Tight "Mod" has a tight points race near the top as the 3rd through 12th place drivers are separated by just 4 rounds of eliminations with 4 races remaining.

Pearl Road Auto Parts "Street" has the tightest championship race of all of the classes after 6 events. After this past Sunday's action, Kevin Burns, Jeff Gates, and Daniel Imhoff are in a 3-way tie for the points lead.

With the top 7 racers in the "Street" class all receiving cash and prizes at the annual awards banquet, a lot of shuffling will occur over the last 4 point events of the year. After Sunday's action, just 2 rounds of eliminations separate the next 3 drivers in the standings and 2 more rounds separate the next 7 racers in the "Street" class.

In the Springhetti Insurance "Junior Fuel" class, Devon Barr has led the standings for each event this season, but she may be hearing footsteps.

Based on her win on Sunday, Kayla Young has pulled into a tie for second place in the "Jr Fuel" standings with Tylr Barton and 4th place Jamie Devine sits just two rounds behind that pair.

The standings in the Dragway 42 "Junior Super Stock" championship is also a close one. The points earned by Sunday's event winner Nick Burns has allowed him to pull into a tie for the lead with Taylor Young. This is the second straight week where Young has shared the lead, last week holding that position with Nick Vanderwyst.

Vanderwyst was the runner-up on Sunday, but fell to 3rd place in the standings due to having to 'buyback' into the 2nd round.

Three rounds of eliminations separate the 3rd through 7th place racers in the Junior Super Stock class, so expect things to get even more exciting over the final 4 point events of the season.

In Dragway 42's "Junior Stock" class, Stephen Crowell used his class win on Sunday to move to within one round of the championship lead which has been held all season long by Timmy Burns.

Bret Hall lurks in 3rd place, just 5 rounds out of the lead with 4 events to go and may serve as the spoiler if Burns and Crowell exchange early round knockouts coming down the stretch.

Dragway 42's Summit SuperSeries point racers will have a few weeks off to get ready for the season's final four scheduled series events.

Three events are on the August calender with SSS point races scheduled for Sundays, August 8th, 22nd, and 29th.

The final point race of the season is scheduled for Sunday, September 12th with 45 racers from the program being invited to be a part of "Team 42" when Dragway 42 defends its 2009 IHRA Division 3 Team Championship at the NorthStar Division's Bracket Team Finals in Pittsburgh on September 24-26th.

United Council of Corvette Clubs at Dragway 42 Tuesday, July 13, 2010

If you happen to be on the highways between Toledo and West Salem on Thursday, you may think that Chevrolet has moved production of the Corvette from Bowling Green to North Central Ohio.

The movement of scores and scores of "America's Sports Car" on the roadways will be the membership of the United Council of Corvette Clubs who are participating in the organization's 32nd Annual Convention making the trek to Dragway 42 for the drag racing portion of this year's event activities.

The leadership of the UCCC has taken advantage of Dragway 42's expansive (and very reasonably priced) track rental program to offer its membership the opportunity to wring out their Corvettes at this exclusive event.
