 General Rules

Any instance of excessive braking (tire smoke) at the finish line will result in immediate disqualification without warning. Starter or race director has final say.

No changing of dial in’s once you have crossed the yellow line at the front of staging and head to the burnout box.

All cars running 9.99 in the 1/4 mile or 6.40 in the 1/8th must have an engine diaper or catch pan as per IHRA rules.

Absolutely no power braking on the starting line (no burnouts on the starting line).

Diesel trucks are asked to have an up pipe on exit exhaust.

All IHRA mandated safety rules will be enforced by Dragway 42 tech officials and you will not be allowed to run if you do not meet all of those requirements.

COURTESY STAGING:

Racers are expected to be courteous to their opponents. Drivers should wait until both have lit the pre-stage bulbs before fully staging.

DEEP STAGING:

Deep staging is allowed, but not not guaranteed at Dragway 42. If you hesitate and drag around while going DEEP the tree may come on. You must be going DEEP at a forward motion, don’t stop at stage. You must have DEEP written on your windows. It is advised for DEEP stagers to go in first. Deep staging is allowed in Modified, Street, and Junior Dragster only. Must have “DEEP” written on car front, rear and sides where starter can easily see it. Deep staging must be done in a quick fashion. Deep stagers are urged to knock both stage lights on, representing “pre stage” status. Courtesy staging does not apply to a deep stager. Be ready for the tree at all times. In the unlikely event that a racer takes an obviously inappropriate amount of time to fully stage, the starter will activate the tree and it is a race.

AUTOSTART:

  • For Non-Deep stagers: Autostart will be activated when one driver has lit both their pre-stage and stage bulbs, and the second driver lights their pre-stage bulb. When three sets of stage bulbs are lit, a timer in the computer will begin counting down. The un-staged driver will have 7 seconds to fully stage their car. Failing to stage the car within the 7 seconds will result in a disqualification of that driver. Once both drivers are fully staged, the tree will start automatically between 1.2 and 1.7 seconds. The starting line official will not override the autostart.
